Zuckerberg buys Irish Gothic castle, spokesman says

Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have bought Strancally Castle in County Waterford, Ireland, a spokesman for the Meta founder and CEO said on August 20, 2026.

The spokesman said the family was excited about the historic home and expected to spend time in Ireland, where Meta has its international headquarters.

The three-storey Gothic Revival house was built in 1827 and is about 150 kilometres southwest of Dublin. Zuckerberg bought it from the Alen-Buckley family in an off-market deal in recent weeks, but the price was not disclosed.

The property has been renovated extensively over the past 20 years by its previous owners. Michael Alen-Buckley is a co-founder of London-based private investment firm RAB Capital.

The spokesman said Zuckerberg and his family will continue to live in the United States and use the Irish property when conducting Meta business in Ireland.

Meta employs about 1,500 people in Ireland. Its Irish operations include its Dublin international headquarters, a virtual and augmented reality business in Cork and a data centre outside Dublin.
