WHO warehouse in Dnipro destroyed, Tedros says

A World Health Organization humanitarian warehouse stocking medical supplies in Dnipro, Ukraine, was struck and destroyed on Friday, WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Sunday.

Tedros said no casualties had been reported. He said a WHO staff member and drivers had been at the site earlier in the day, but left before the attack after evacuating 130 of about 300 pallets.

The warehouse held humanitarian medical supplies intended for frontline health facilities, mainly WHO emergency health supplies, Tedros said.

The WHO records attacks on health care around the world but, under its rules, does not attribute blame for them. It has recorded 3,148 attacks on health care in Ukraine since Russia's February 24, 2022 invasion, with 2,567 impacting facilities, 71 impacting warehouses and 645 impacting supplies. The recorded attacks have resulted in 240 deaths and 1,055 injuries.

Last month, Doctors Without Borders, also known as MSF, accused Russia of a deliberate strategy to destroy Ukraine's health care system. The group said attacks on health care facilities and medical staff appeared to be deliberate rather than an incidental consequence of Russia's invasion.

Russia and Ukraine have been increasing long-range strikes more than four years after the start of Russia's full-scale offensive against Ukraine.
