Water supply problem disrupts services at London Gatwick Airport (LGW)

London's Gatwick Airport (LGW) said on Sunday it was dealing with a water supply problem affecting both North and South terminals, with toilets reported to be out of order and restaurants closed.

The airport, south of the capital and described as Britain's second busiest air hub, is also served by several no-frills carriers including EasyJet. The disruption came during the busy summer holiday period.

Flights were not reported to be affected. Passengers posted online that they could not flush toilets, get hot drinks, wash their hands or fill water bottles.

Gatwick Airport said on X that a water issue in the Horley area was causing disruption at the airport on Sunday morning. It said the problem was affecting water supply in both terminals and was under investigation.

The airport said bottled water was being handed out to passengers and staff and that other contingency measures were being put in place for passenger welfare.

Regional water provider SES Water said a power outage at a nearby water treatment site had caused complications and that some customers had low water pressure or a temporary loss of supply. The company said it was working with Gatwick Airport to restore normal service as quickly as possible.
