US Iran strikes completed, CENTCOM says
US Central Command said a “heavy wave” of US strikes against Iran had been completed on Thursday after renewed fighting between Washington and Tehran.
The United States military had launched strikes on Iran after Iranian attacks targeted US bases in Jordan. CENTCOM called the strikes a response to attempted Iranian attacks on US forces based in the Middle East.
Jordan's army said it intercepted five Iranian missiles, while Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they had targeted US bases there.
Iranian state television reported a US strike in the Piranshahr border area. The Fars news agency said a missile hit an uninhabited area and caused no casualties.
The renewed fighting followed US and Saudi strikes on militant bases in Iraq on Wednesday. The US military said logistics and weapons sites belonging to an Iran-aligned group were targeted. Iraq's Hashed al-Shaabi alliance said at least 20 of its members were killed, and two Hashed officials said five Iranian advisers were among the dead.
Iraq denounced the US-Saudi strikes and said it rejected acts of aggression. Fox News reported that US President Donald Trump said the strikes in Iraq were coordinated with the Iraqi government.
