US military says it disabled tanker near Iran port blockade
The US military said on Friday that it fired on and disabled a tanker ship that it said was trying to evade an American blockade on Iranian ports.
Navy Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for US Central Command, said the tanker was disabled after its crew had tried to run the blockade at least four times before. He said the crew had been warned repeatedly but did not comply.
Hawkins said US forces at the scene fired into the ship's engine room. He said the vessel was no longer travelling toward Iran.
