Ukraine targets Russia's Ozon warehouses with drones

Ukraine hit a warehouse belonging to Russian e-commerce company Ozon in the central Orenburg region on Sunday, the second day of attacks on the company, as Kyiv said it was expanding strikes on Russian logistics sites.

Ozon said a fire broke out at the logistics hub after a drone attack and that warehouse operations were suspended. The strike came a day after an Ozon centre in the neighbouring Samara region was hit. Ozon said an unspecified number of workers were wounded in that attack.

Ukraine's military said Saturday it was starting a campaign against Ozon after strikes on the 15 largest logistics hubs of Wildberries, Russia's biggest online retailer. Kyiv has alleged that Wildberries supplied components to the Russian military.

A logistics centre next to an Ozon facility on the outskirts of Saint Petersburg was also hit overnight.

Ozon is Russia's second-largest online marketplace. Ozon and Wildberries have both been described as Russia's equivalent of Amazon because of their large role in the country's e-commerce sector.

The warehouse attacks have caused economic losses worth billions of dollars, and several facilities holding flammable goods have been destroyed. Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged support for Wildberries on Wednesday, saying the government would help rebuild logistics hubs hit by Ukrainian attacks.

Russia has condemned the attacks as strikes on civilian infrastructure during its full-scale offensive against Ukraine, which has killed thousands of civilians and devastated cities in Ukraine's east and south.

Uncertainty notes

The number and condition of Ozon workers wounded in the Samara region attack were not specified.
The source did not give damage details for the Orenburg or Saint Petersburg-area sites.
