Tyla drops Lagos show amid Nigeria-South Africa row

South African singer-songwriter Tyla removed a planned Lagos show from her tour line-up as Nigeria and South Africa faced tensions over anti-immigrant violence in South Africa.

No reason was given for the change. The removal came after some Nigerians on social media called for a boycott of the show.

Tyla had announced on Monday that her world tour for her second album, "A*POP", would include Lagos, New York, Paris and Cape Town. By Friday morning, the Lagos leg had been removed from the line-up on her website. The Lagos show had been timed for Nigeria's year-end concert season known as Detty December.

The change came after months of protests in South Africa against African immigrants, some of them violent. Demonstrators have blamed immigrants for crime, unemployment and pressure on public services.

Nigeria has been outspoken on the issue, and tension was visible as high-ranking officials from Abuja and Pretoria met this week at Nigeria's foreign ministry.

South African police say at least four foreign nationals have been killed in attacks linked to the anti-migrant protests, while some African governments repatriating citizens have reported a higher toll. More than 160,000 people have fled South Africa, according to an AFP tally based on figures from African governments repatriating their citizens, including about 1,500 Nigerians.
