Two killed as small plane crashes into house roof in Germany

Two men died on Saturday when a small private plane crashed into the roof of a house in northwestern Germany, police said.

The light aircraft came down in a residential area of Ganderkesee, near Oldenburg, and hit the pitched roof of a house head-on. Police said the two occupants were men aged 65 and 77 from Bremen.

Police had earlier said one occupant had died and the other was missing. The Delmenhorst police department later said both men were confirmed dead after lengthy and complex recovery work on the aircraft wreckage.

The wreckage was removed from the roof, and residents who had been evacuated were allowed to return to their homes. Authorities have opened an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Uncertainty notes

The cause of the crash has not been determined.
