Turkish musician Haluk Levent arrested in NGO graft probe, media report
Turkish police arrested rock musician and civil society activist Haluk Levent on Sunday, media reports said.
BirGun newspaper and the left-leaning Sozcu daily said the Istanbul public prosecutor's office issued a warrant as part of a graft investigation into AHBAP, the non-governmental organisation Levent founded in 2017. The reports said the 57-year-old musician was detained by the police financial crimes unit.
The reports said Levent was arrested in Bursa, in northwestern Turkey, on charges including violating the associations law, money laundering and membership in an organised crime group.
AHBAP became prominent for its national volunteer network and for aid work after the February 2023 earthquake in southeastern Turkey, which killed more than 53,500 people.
The reports said Levent was expected to be taken before a judge at Istanbul's Caglayan courthouse, but did not say when.
