Tufan Erhurman hospitalized in North Cyprus

Tufan Erhurman, president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, was taken to hospital Friday evening after falling ill at an event in Nicosia's Old Town, Haber Kibris reported.

The news website said medics treated Erhurman at the scene before he was taken away by ambulance.

Health minister Hakan Dincyurek said Erhurman's angiography results were clear, no pathology was detected in his main artery and his overall condition was good, according to Haber Kibris. Dincyurek said Erhurman would remain in hospital until all tests were completed.

Erhurman was elected in October as head of the breakaway territory. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is recognised only by Ankara, while the internationally recognised Republic of Cyprus controls the island's Greek Cypriot south.
