Trump announces staged tariffs on imported generic drugs
US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that imported generic drugs would face new tariffs after a two-year zero-tariff period, in a move he said was aimed at moving production of the medicines to the United States. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said generic drugs brought into the United States would continue to have a zero percent tariff from August 1, 2026, for two years. He said the tariff would then rise to 100 percent for one year and to 200 percent after that.
