Syria minibus bomb kills 2, wounds 13, state media says

A bomb planted on a minibus exploded on Thursday in Jaramana, near Damascus, killing at least two people and wounding 13, Syrian state media reported, citing the health ministry.

State TV cited an official source as saying preliminary information indicated the explosion was caused by a bomb placed inside the minibus. No group immediately claimed responsibility.

AFP images from the scene showed the minibus with its roof blown out, its chassis wrecked from inside and debris strewn across the road. An AFP photographer saw several ambulances heading to the area, where a main thoroughfare had been closed to traffic.

The health ministry earlier said human remains were being identified and processed by forensic medical teams, state news agency SANA reported.

Jaramana, a Damascus suburb, is home to Druze and Christian communities and was affected by sectarian violence in spring 2025. Syria's capital and its suburbs have seen multiple attacks and incidents targeting civilians and security forces since the toppling of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.

Recent attacks cited in the supplied information include two homemade bombs during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Damascus last month that killed one person and wounded 36, and a cafe bombing in central Damascus that killed 10 people and wounded around 20. Syrian officials said they had captured an Islamic State-linked cell responsible for the blasts during Macron's visit.
