State media says flash flood at northwest China tourist site kills 10
Chinese state media reported that a flash flood triggered by heavy rain struck a tourist site in northwest China on Sunday, killing 10 people and injuring 23.
State broadcaster CCTV said a mountain torrent caused by short-term heavy rainfall trapped campers at a scenic spot in Weiyuan County, Dingxi City, in Gansu Province. CCTV earlier identified the location as the Shuangshimen Scenic Area in the rugged mountains of southern Gansu, about 1,200 kilometres southwest of Beijing.
CCTV said the injured had been taken to hospital and that 174 other people had been rescued. Shuangshimen is known for natural stone arches, alpine meadows and mountain streams, and is a popular summer camping site.
The report said large areas of southern China were on high alert for floods on Sunday after Typhoon Noul made landfall earlier in the morning. Gansu is far from Noul's path, but parts of the province also had heavy rain on Sunday, with local authorities issuing weather alerts.

CCTV identified the flood site as the Shuangshimen Scenic Area in southern Gansu.
CCTV said 174 people had been rescued.

State broadcaster CCTV said the flood was a mountain torrent triggered by short-term heavy rainfall.
CCTV located the incident at a scenic spot in Weiyuan County, Dingxi City, in Gansu Province.
CCTV said some campers were trapped at the location.
