Spotify AI Persona badge to label AI profiles

Spotify said Tuesday it will launch an “AI Persona” badge in mid-September to identify content producers that are AI-generated and not real people.

The Swedish streaming company said listeners had objected to artist profiles that appear human before users discover the persona is AI-generated.

Spotify said it will add badges to artist profiles that self-disclose as AI Personas and will also apply badges to relevant profiles. The company said it will not include AI Personas in editorial or personalized recommendations unless a user follows an AI Persona.

The move follows Spotify's April launch of its “Verified by Spotify” badge, which signals that a profile has been reviewed and meets its authenticity standard. The announcement comes amid concern in the music industry about AI-generated content overwhelming streaming catalogues.
