Spain wildfire: 275 firefighters tackle Andalusia blaze

More than 275 firefighters were battling a wildfire north of Niebla in Spain's Andalusia region on Saturday, with authorities saying no residential zone was currently threatened.

Antonio Sanz, an adviser to Andalusia's emergency service, said the blaze was active across around 4,000 hectares near Niebla, between Seville and the Portuguese border.

Sanz said changing winds were complicating efforts to fight the fire, although he said a short “window of opportunity” had opened on Saturday before conditions were expected to worsen later in the day.

The regional fire service said about 20 aircraft and heavy machinery were supporting firefighters. It said 60 troops from a military emergency unit were among those involved.

Spain has faced several wildfires this summer, including blazes that forced thousands of people to evacuate in central areas of the country.
