World Cup-winning Spain coach Luis de la Fuente visits wildfire evacuees in Las Rozas, Madrid

World Cup-winning Spain coach Luis de la Fuente visited nearly 300 people evacuated by wildfires west of Madrid on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

De la Fuente met evacuees, volunteers and emergency personnel at the La Marazuela sports complex in Las Rozas, Madrid. He said he wanted to lift their spirits and show that they had the support of the whole country.

Some evacuated families were also being housed at the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s City of Football training complex in Las Rozas.

The report said around 75,000 people had been displaced by wildfires outside Madrid, in neighbouring areas and in Spain’s Valencia region.

De la Fuente led Spain to its second men’s World Cup title one week earlier. Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on July 19 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
