Sony raises profit outlook on gaming earnings
Sony raised its annual profit forecast on Friday, citing stronger expected earnings from its video games business and support from the weak yen.
The Japanese consumer electronics company said it now expects net income of 1.21 trillion yen, or $7.5 billion, for the year to next March, up from its previous projection of 1.16 trillion yen.
Sony, maker of the PlayStation games console, said the increase reflected improved sales and operating income in its gaming division.
The company also said it benefited from favourable foreign currency effects and tariff refunds by the United States. The yen recently hit a 40-year low against the dollar.
Sony projected group revenue of 12.5 trillion yen for the year to March 31, 2027, up from a May forecast of 12.3 trillion yen.
