Secret Service agent assigned to JD Vance investigated over alleged leaks

A US Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance is under investigation over alleged leaks, a Secret Service spokesman said Thursday. The investigation followed a report that Vance wanted to fly his son to a golf lesson on a military helicopter.

Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said a member of the Vice Presidential Protective Division was the subject of an administrative investigation and possible criminal inquiry. He said the allegations involved compromising operational and information security.

Guglielmi said the agency would not discuss the specifics, but said conduct that could threaten the safety of a protectee would not be tolerated.

US broadcaster MSNOW reported last week that Vance's security detail had become increasingly frustrated with personal travel requests from the vice president and his family. According to MSNOW, the requests included flying Vance and his son on Marine Two to a secure golf course at Joint Base Andrews near Washington. Marine Two is the call sign used by the helicopter carrying the vice president.

MSNOW reported that the flight was canceled because of thunderstorms and was one of several last-minute requests made by the Vance family.

Vance and his wife Usha recently welcomed their fourth child. He is the first vice president in decades with young children and has previously spoken positively about the agents and staff who help them.

The Secret Service has said it is dealing with an unprecedented number of threats against people it protects, including President Donald Trump, who has survived several assassination attempts.
