Saint-Tropez $300,000 watch theft: 4 suspects arrested
French police have arrested four Spanish suspects after a luxury watch valued at about $300,000 was stolen from a Brazilian tourist in Saint-Tropez, authorities said Sunday.
The watch was taken on Friday, later recovered and will be returned to its owner, the gendarmerie in France's Var region said.
The suspects allegedly fled by car after the theft and were arrested in the nearby town of Cogolin. Regional daily Nice-Matin reported that police caught them after a chase on roads around the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
The Var gendarmerie said about 15 luxury watches have been reported stolen in the Saint-Tropez area since the start of the season.
Uncertainty notes
The suspects have been arrested, but no conviction or formal finding of guilt is reported.
The watch value is based on the owner's valuation.
