Rotterdam stabbing suspect arrested after two injured

Dutch police said they arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of injuring two people in a series of apparently random stabbing incidents in Rotterdam on Saturday.

Police said the first two incidents happened around 9:30 am on a residential street in Spangen, west of the city centre, and at nearby Marconiplein, a major transport hub. Rotterdam police said two male victims were injured, with one taken to hospital and the other treated at the scene in an ambulance.

About half an hour later, police received a report of an attempted stabbing at the Brug van Cyrene footbridge near Rotterdam The Hague airport in the city’s northwest.

Rotterdam police said the same suspect is believed to have been involved in the incidents and is thought to have travelled by car. Police said further investigations were under way.

Uncertainty notes

Police described the incidents as apparently random and said investigations were continuing.
The motive and full circumstances were not established.
