Rob Reiner's son pleads not guilty to murder charges

Nick Reiner, the son of US film director Rob Reiner, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to two counts of murder after grand jury indictments were unsealed in the deaths of his parents.

The charges include special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait. They supersede previous charges filed over the December 2025 deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Singer.

Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested on December 14 after his parents' bloodied bodies were found at their home in the Brentwood neighbourhood of Los Angeles. Rob Reiner, 79, and Michele Singer, 70, were stabbed to death.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the grand jury indictment would bring the case closer to trial. If convicted as charged, Nick Reiner could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty, although California does not routinely carry out capital punishment.

Nick Reiner remains in jail and was ordered to return to court on September 15. Rob Reiner directed films including "When Harry Met Sally," "A Few Good Men," "This is Spinal Tap," "The Princess Bride" and "Stand By Me."
