Reform UK reports guillotine T-shirt image reposted by Green leader to police

Reform UK said on Monday that it had reported to police an Instagram image reposted by Green Party leader Zack Polanski showing a man wearing a T-shirt with a guillotine and the slogan “We’re only making plans for Nigel”.

Zia Yusuf, a senior figure in Nigel Farage’s party, wrote on X that Reform “has reported this matter to the police” and alleged the post was “inciting murder”. Police said on X that they were looking into the matter.

The Green Party said Polanski condemned the image and had clicked accept on a post with multiple images without realising there was more to it than he had seen. The photo was posted by a freelance photographer from an event Polanski attended in Bristol on Sunday and was edited on Monday to remove the image.

Yusuf linked his concern to the killing of Ann Widdecombe, a right-wing former MP and Reform UK spokesperson, who was found dead at her home on July 9 after being hit with a hammer. A 28-year-old man has been charged with her murder. Farage has repeatedly raised concerns about his personal security.

The slogan on the T-shirt refers to lyrics from the 1979 song “Making Plans for Nigel” by the British band XTC.
