Pope Leo XIV to visit Uruguay, Argentina and Peru
Pope Leo XIV will visit Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from November 6 to 17, the Vatican said on August 5, in a trip to the continent where he spent decades as a missionary.
The pope, born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, lived for more than two decades in Peru, where he was a missionary and bishop in Chiclayo. The Vatican said Chiclayo will be among his stops in Peru, along with Lima, Cusco and Pucallpa.
The trip will begin in Uruguay from November 6 to 8, with stops in Montevideo, Paysandu and Florida. Leo will then visit Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Lujan in Argentina until November 11, before travelling to Peru from November 11 to 17.
The Vatican said it will be the first official visit by a pontiff in almost 40 years to Uruguay and Argentina. Leo's predecessor, Francis, did not return to his home country of Argentina while pope.
