Philippines' Marcos says nuclear energy may be worth revisiting amid high power prices

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos said Monday that it may be time for the country to revisit nuclear energy production, after declaring a national energy emergency earlier this year.

Speaking to a joint session of Congress in a nationally televised address, Marcos said nuclear power might hold answers for the Philippines, which AFP reported pays the highest electricity prices in the region.

“Perhaps it is time for us to revisit nuclear energy production,” he said. Marcos also said safety would be ensured and that the benefits of nuclear energy would be explained properly to the public.

The AFP report did not describe a specific nuclear project, timetable or policy decision.
