Peter Nygard found guilty in additional sexual assault case

Peter Nygard, founder of one of Canada's largest clothing brands, was found guilty on Monday in Montreal of sexual assault in an additional criminal case. He was also found guilty of forcible confinement after his lawyers did not contest the allegations. Prosecutor Jerome Laflamme told reporters that the scheduled 10-day trial on the Montreal charges would not take place and that the court had found Nygard guilty. Sentencing will be decided at a later date. Court records show the criminal acts occurred at Nygard's Montreal penthouse between November 1997 and November 1998. Nygard, 84, was previously sentenced to 11 years after being convicted in a Toronto court in November 2023 of sexually assaulting three women and a 16-year-old girl between 1988 and 2005. The source said Nygard built a clothing retail business across Canada and the United States and used his status to commit sexual violence, including by luring women with false promises of modelling work. The source also said US prosecutors are seeking to extradite Nygard to face trial over alleged crimes, including accusations that minor girls were drugged and women were assaulted at so-called pamper parties if they did not comply with his sexual demands.
