Paris wife killer jailed for 27 years

A Paris court sentenced a 53-year-old man to 27 years in prison on Friday for murdering his wife and scattering parts of her body in Buttes-Chaumont park in 2023.

Park workers found a plastic bag containing remains in the popular northeast Paris park. The woman's head was found the following day.

Investigators said the couple were originally from Algeria, had three children, lived in the Paris suburbs and had drifted apart while facing financial difficulties.

The man later confessed to police. He was sentenced for murder on Friday.

In 2024, 107 women were killed by a partner or former partner in France, an 11 percent increase from the previous year, according to official figures.
