More evacuations ordered in France’s fire-hit Landes region
A French official said 8,000 more people were being evacuated in the fire-hit Landes region in southwestern France. The new evacuations were in addition to 23,000 people who had already been evacuated since the previous day.
Gilles Clavreul, the prefect for Landes, gave the latest evacuation figure. He said there were no civilian casualties for the moment. He said five firefighters had suffered injuries or irritations, but that none was serious.
