Norway flights face delays in air controllers strike
Flights in Norway were expected to be disrupted Friday and through the weekend after talks over air traffic controllers' working conditions ended without agreement, airport operator Avinor said.
The Norwegian Air Traffic Controllers' Association scheduled a walkout by 12 controllers at Oslo Gardermoen and Bergen Flesland, the country's two main airports, from 11:00 am (0900 GMT) Friday.
Avinor warned of delays in Oslo and Bergen in the afternoon and evening, with effects elsewhere in Norway. It also expected delays over the weekend and said Gardermoen was expected to close to air traffic on Sunday morning.
The union said negotiations covered break times and the framework governing controllers' work. The Spekter employer organisation criticised the strike and said it had offered an average annual salary increase of 62,000 kroner ($6,650), which it said the union rejected.
Uncertainty notes
The exact number of delayed or cancelled flights was not established.
The duration and scale of disruption beyond the expected weekend impact remained uncertain.
