Niger bus crash kills at least 21, ANP says

At least 21 people were killed and 37 wounded when two buses crashed into each other in southern Niger, the country's official ANP news agency reported on Saturday.

ANP said the accident happened on Friday about 55 kilometres from Madaoua on the road to Maradi. The wounded were taken to emergency departments at hospitals in Madaoua and Maradi.

According to ANP, one of the buses was carrying soldiers. The agency said an investigation into the cause of the crash had been opened.

The crash comes during an official campaign to raise awareness about road accidents in Niger. The Nigerien Agency for Road Safety said the country recorded more than 7,000 road accidents in 2025, killing more than 1,200 people and seriously injuring more than 4,400.
