Moscow says Ukrainian drones hit Russia as far as Yekaterinburg

Ukraine launched more than 300 drones into Russia on Saturday, Moscow said, killing at least two people in a border region and reaching as far as the Urals city of Yekaterinburg.

Russia's defence ministry said it intercepted 328 drones, including over the Moscow region and over regions as far away as Bashkortostan and the Chuvash Republic. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 200 drones were headed at the Moscow region.

Alexander Shuvayev, the acting head of Russia's Belgorod region, said two people were killed in border areas.

In Yekaterinburg, the Russian online retail company Wildberries said it evacuated staff and suspended work at a logistics facility after a timely evacuation. The company said the facility was not damaged. Yekaterinburg lies just before Siberia.

Denis Pasler, head of the Sverdlovsk region, whose capital is Yekaterinburg, confirmed the city had been attacked. He said there were no casualties in the city and that drones caused a fire at a parking lot.

Wildberries warehouses around Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Crimea and southern Russia have been hit by Ukrainian drones this week, causing fires and business losses.

The attacks came a day after a Ukrainian strike on a factory in Russia's city of Kirov, hundreds of miles east of Moscow, killed several people and led authorities to declare three days of mourning in the region. Local governor Alexander Sokolov said he was strengthening security after that attack. He said the final death toll from Friday's factory strike was five, not six, after an employee who had been listed as missing under rubble and out of contact was found alive. Kyiv said the site was a military factory helping Russia's war effort.

Kyiv has intensified retaliatory strikes deep inside Russia in recent months, causing fuel shortages and disrupting daily life more than at any point during Moscow's more than four-year offensive.
