Luigi Mangione may plead guilty to stalking, NYT reports

Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson in Manhattan, may plead guilty to stalking charges in his federal case, The New York Times reported Thursday.

Mangione faces stalking charges in the federal system and murder charges in the state system. The stalking charges and the murder charges could both lead to life sentences.

Two other federal charges that carried the death penalty were thrown out by a judge earlier this year.

Officials said Mangione is due in court Friday for a conference involving his defense attorneys, prosecutors and the judge. His lawyers did not respond to a request for comment, and prosecutors declined to comment.
