London football disorder injures officer; four arrested
One police officer was injured and four people were arrested in central London early Friday after France beat Morocco in a World Cup quarter-final, London police said.
Police said people blocked traffic on Edgware Road, near Hyde Park, before the incident escalated. A police spokesperson said the group threw bottles and set off fireworks.
The injured officer was taken to hospital with head injuries. Police said it was believed the officer had been hit by a glass bottle.
Images shared on social media showed dozens of people in Edgware Road, with some throwing bottles and other objects at police.
Uncertainty notes
The full circumstances of the officer's injury were not confirmed beyond police saying it was believed to involve a glass bottle.
