Liechtenstein says 31,000 entities hit in hack

Liechtenstein's government said Sunday that unknown hackers stole data from approximately 31,000 legal entities after gaining unauthorised access to a register used to help prevent money laundering and terrorist financing.

The government said preliminary findings showed the breach took place during the night of July 30, 2026, and targeted the Register of Beneficial Owners of Legal Entities, which was set up in 2021.

A crisis team led by Prime Minister Brigitte Haas and Justice Minister Emanuel Schadler was set up on Saturday evening to investigate the breach and inform those affected as soon as possible.
