Lebanon says Israeli strike wounds two, damages ambulance

Lebanon's health ministry said an Israeli strike in the southern city of Nabatieh wounded two people on Tuesday, and that a second strike damaged an ambulance after rescuers arrived at the scene.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency said the strike targeted a vehicle in Nabatieh. The health ministry said rescuers from the Risala Scouts Association, which is linked to the Hezbollah-allied Amal movement, came to the scene before the second strike damaged their ambulance.

The ministry condemned what it called the continued targeting of rescue teams, saying it violated international humanitarian law and international norms.

Lebanon's civil defence separately said its personnel were targeted by an Israeli drone strike while trying to extinguish a bushfire in the Nabatieh area. It said no one was wounded, but the incident forced them to leave.

The reported strike came despite an ongoing truce in the war between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah. Hezbollah drew Lebanon into the wider Middle East war in March with rocket fire at Israel in support of Iran. Israel responded with air strikes and a ground invasion that Lebanon says have killed more than 4,300 people.

Violence has decreased since a US-Iran memorandum of understanding in June and a Lebanon-Israel framework agreement days later, but Beirut still reports intermittent Israeli strikes and demolitions. The Lebanon-Israel deal includes Hezbollah's disarmament, a gradual Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon and deployment of the Lebanese army to the region, starting in two pilot zones. Hezbollah rejects the deal and refuses to disarm.
