Kyiv missile attack kills two, officials say

Russian strikes hit Kyiv early Thursday, local officials and the Ukrainian military reported, with city officials saying two women were killed and six people were injured.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said an overnight missile attack struck residential areas and warehouses. He said the upper floors of a nine-storey residential block had collapsed and caught fire, and that people were trapped inside another residential block. He had earlier said there were reports of people trapped inside a shelter.

Ukraine's Air Force warned of Russian Kalibr missiles near the village of Kagarlyk in the Kyiv region, heading toward the capital.

Both Russia and Ukraine have increased attacks in recent months. Moscow has expanded long-range strikes on towns and cities across Ukraine, while Ukraine has escalated retaliatory strikes on Russia, partly to pressure Moscow into negotiations after nearly four and a half years of war.
