Kyiv explosions heard as mayor warns of ballistic attack
Explosions were heard in Kyiv early Thursday after missile warnings, an AFP journalist reported, as Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the Ukrainian capital was being attacked with ballistic weapons and told residents to stay in shelters.
Klitschko said the threat of further attack remained. President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned late Wednesday that Russia was likely to carry out a massive attack overnight and urged people across Ukraine to heed air raid alerts.
Zelensky also repeated calls for allies to provide missiles for Ukraine's air defence systems. He said he had discussed with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday the possibility of Ukraine producing Patriot interceptors.
