Kyiv air alert moves Ukraine-Belgium talks underground

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga and Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot held talks in an underground bomb shelter in Kyiv on Tuesday after an air alert sounded in the capital.

Sybiga said on social media that the meeting was moved underground “due to Russian drones attacking our capital”. He said the talks took place in the Ukrainian foreign ministry’s bomb shelter and described it as a daily reality for millions of Ukrainians.

Sybiga posted a picture of the two ministers sitting at a table in a windowless room and a video showing the two delegations moving through underground corridors.

Air alerts sound daily in Ukraine as Russia launches drones and missiles at the country. In July, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen briefly sheltered during an air alert and drone threat while visiting Kyiv.
