Kenya helicopter crash has no survivors, source says
A helicopter carrying several tourists crashed in Kenya's Samburu county on Wednesday, and an aviation source told AFP there were no survivors.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority said the accident happened at 9:13 am local time after the aircraft left the Loisaba wildlife reserve. The crash occurred at the foot of Mount Ololokwe, north of Nairobi.
The aviation source could not say how many people were on board. Local media reported that the helicopter was carrying seven tourists, but their nationalities were not known.
The cause of the crash has not been established. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority said investigations were under way.
The Kenya Red Cross said response operations were continuing as part of a multi-agency effort to access the crash site.
Mount Ololokwe, a sacred mountain for the Samburu people, is a popular hiking destination and companies offer helicopter flyovers there. In March, a helicopter crash in western Kenya killed six people, including a member of parliament.
