Joe Biden's cancer has spread further, son says

Former US president Joe Biden's cancer has spread further, his son Hunter Biden said in a BBC Newsnight interview published late Friday.

Hunter Biden said the cancer “has metastasized into his bones and further” despite treatment. He described the illness as painful and debilitating, while saying his father was still active.

Joe Biden, 83, revealed in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. He later began treatment including radiation and hormone therapy, and last month said it was going “really well” while announcing an upcoming memoir.

Biden faced repeated questions about his health while serving as the oldest US president. He ran for a second term in 2024 but withdrew after a poor debate performance against Donald Trump and pressure from Democrats. Trump later defeated Biden's replacement candidate, then-vice president Kamala Harris.
