Jensen Huang leather jacket sells for $960,000 at New York auction

A black leather jacket worn by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang sold for $960,000 at a New York auction on Friday, Sotheby's said.

The auction price was 16 times the estimated value of $60,000. Sotheby's said 45 collectors bid on the Tom Ford jacket. Brahm Wachter, Sotheby's Head of Modern Collectibles, called it an object closely tied to one of the defining figures of the AI era.

Huang has made leather jackets part of his public image, wearing one at nearly every public appearance, including on the cover of Time Magazine in 2021. The report compared the style to Apple founder Steve Jobs' black turtlenecks and Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg's gray T-shirts.

As head of Nvidia, Huang has seen the chipmaker grow into the highest-valued publicly traded company in the world. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Edge Institute, a nonprofit organization that teaches English and trains professionals in Western business and educational methods.
