Iranian Kurdish Rebels Say 14 Drone Strikes Hit Iraq Bases
Iranian Kurdish rebels said at least 14 drone strikes had hit their bases in Iraq's Kurdistan region since Monday, and one opposition commander blamed Iran for the attacks.
Amjad Panahi of the Komala party told AFP on Tuesday that Iranian forces had launched 14 drone attacks against bases belonging to Komala, the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Freedom Party. He said the strikes caused material damage and fires, but no casualties.
Adib Khaldian of the Kurdistan Freedom Party confirmed that drone attacks had targeted his group. Opposition officials said the most recent attacks came before dawn.
The Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan said on X on Monday that a broad and sustained campaign had struck the Kurdistan region dozens of times in recent days.
The autonomous Kurdistan region hosts US troops, foreign oil companies and exiled Iranian Kurdish rebel groups. During the Middle East war, the region has been targeted by attacks.
On July 17, drone and rocket strikes killed nine Komala members near Sulaimaniyah, and no group claimed responsibility for those attacks.
Uncertainty notes
Responsibility for the latest strikes is attributed to opposition officials; the item does not include confirmation from Iran.
The exact locations of all 14 reported strikes are not specified.
The phrase 'dozens of times in recent days' from the PDKI was not reconciled with the separate figure of 14 strikes since Monday.
