Iran urges IAEA to condemn alleged US strike on Darkhovin nuclear site

Update

Iran identified the site as the Darkhovin nuclear power plant under construction in southwest Iran.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei addressed the request at a press conference in Tehran.

Baghaei said Iran expected the IAEA Board of Governors and the IAEA Director General to condemn what he called a US crime.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said it was looking into the reports of an attack on the Darkhovin plant.

The IAEA said the plant was in the very early stages of construction and contained no nuclear material when it last visited.

The IAEA said the incident was not believed to pose any radiological risk.

IAEA director Rafael Grossi renewed a call for military restraint near all nuclear-related sites.
