US says latest Iran strikes targeted maritime and missile capabilities
The US military said Monday night that it had completed its latest round of strikes against Iran, targeting several types of sites that it said were linked to Tehran's ability to attack ships using the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM said in a post on X that US forces hit Iranian military command centers, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems. It said the aim was to degrade Iran's ability to continue attacking commercial vessels moving through the Strait of Hormuz.
The update adds detail to an earlier report on US strikes against Iran. That report also said President Donald Trump had warned Iran on Monday that it would pay many times over for each American soldier killed.

The United States launched a tenth consecutive night of strikes against Iran late Monday.
Iran's army said it targeted US assets in Kuwait, while the Revolutionary Guards said they struck sites in Jordan, Bahrain and Syria.
The Houthis threatened to blockade Saudi ports, and Saudi Arabia condemned the threat.
The report added details on recent shipping attacks near the Strait of Hormuz, the UAE and Oman.
Iran said diplomatic exchanges with Washington through mediators were continuing, and Iran's interior minister was expected to travel to Pakistan.

UK Maritime Trade Operations reported sailors abandoned a vessel set on fire near the Strait of Hormuz and later reported another vessel was struck off the United Arab Emirates, with the crew safe.
