Iran hangs two people convicted of Islamic State membership

Iranian authorities hanged two people convicted of being part of the Islamic State group, the judiciary's news website Mizan Online reported on Tuesday. Mizan said Mohiyodin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani were hanged in the morning after a final Supreme Court verdict and legal procedure. The website did not specify when the two men were arrested or when the proceedings against them took place. According to Mizan, the two men were planning to carry out terrorist operations in Iran and were sentenced to death for armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic. Islamic State has claimed multiple attacks on Iran in recent years. Rights groups, including Amnesty International, say Iran executes more people each year than any country except China.
