Iran Guards fire warning shots and turn back six vessels in Strait of Hormuz, state TV says
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards navy fired warning shots and turned back six vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian state television reported on Monday.
A state television correspondent reporting from the Gulf said the vessels had attempted to use routes not approved by Iranian authorities.
The correspondent said the vessels were stopped during the previous night and ordered to turn back.
Earlier, state television reported that one vessel had been involved in an “incident” but provided no further details.
The report followed a separate statement on Saturday in which the Guards said they had fired warning shots and stopped four vessels attempting to transit through the southern part of the strait.
Uncertainty notes
The source does not identify the six vessels, their flags, operators, cargoes or destinations.
The report does not explain the earlier reference to one vessel being involved in an incident.
The account is based on Iranian state television and is not independently confirmed in the supplied material.
