Indonesia earthquake: magnitude 6.9 quake hits Sumatra
A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Indonesia's western Sumatra island late on August 15, the US Geological Survey said, the second tremor reported in the country that day.
USGS placed the epicentre at Pematangsiantar, about 126 kilometres southeast of Medan. The quake was reported at a depth of 183 kilometres.
No tsunami warning had been issued.
