ICE officer kills Mexican man in Texas; son seeks probe

The son of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo demanded an investigation on July 8 after a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot the Mexican man in Houston the previous day.

The US Department of Homeland Security, which includes ICE, said the officer fired in self-defense after Salgado rammed a vehicle into a law enforcement vehicle and tried to run down an officer.

Ronaldo Salgado said his father was a husband, father and builder who had worked in the Houston area for 30 years and was close to obtaining legal status.

The League of United Latin American Citizens joined the call for an investigation. Its chief executive, Juan Proano, said the agency whose officer fired should not control the narrative and evidence. DHS said the FBI would investigate “the potential assault on a federal law enforcement officer.”
