Huawei announces Pura 90s, FreeClip 2 S and MatePad Air

On 16 July 2026, Huawei announced the global launch of the Pura 90s Series smartphone lineup, the FreeClip 2 S open-ear earbuds and the MatePad Air tablet. The company said the launch event took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and described the devices as focused on design, photography and productivity.

Huawei said the Pura 90s Series was first unveiled in Kuala Lumpur on 14 July 2026 and includes the Pura 90s Pro and Pro Max. The company said the phones use a new-generation camera system, AI photography features and improved colour accuracy. It said the camera can capture wide-angle, low-light and portrait images, zoom to distant subjects and focus as close as 5 centimetres for close-up detail. Huawei also said the series includes stabilisation, AI composition and de-glare editing tools, a wider colour spectrum, scratch-resistant Kunlun Glass and its Celia AI assistant. The Pura 90s Pro and Pro Max have 6,000 mAh batteries and support wireless SuperCharge, according to the company. Andreas Zimmer, Huawei's EU head of products, said the series has eight new colours and brings back gradient colours.

Huawei said the FreeClip 2 S is designed for open-ear listening while allowing users to stay aware of their surroundings. The company said the earbuds use an Airy C-bridge design, weigh 5.1 grams each and will be available in Deepsea Blue and Space Silver. Huawei said the C-Bridge design was ergonomically optimised using test data from more than 10,000 human ears and validated by more than 25,000 reliability tests. It also said the earbuds use patented auto left-right recognition and automatic audio channel switching based on sensor detection, posture recognition and audio algorithms.

The company said the FreeClip 2 S builds on earlier clip-on earbud work that began after Huawei's Innovation Design Center identified the potential of cartilage conduction technology in 2019. Huawei said it developed prototypes, submitted related patent applications in China and overseas in June 2022 and launched the HUAWEI FreeClip in the UAE, China, the UK and the EU in December 2023. Huawei also said it has more than 165,000 active granted patents worldwide.

Huawei said the MatePad Air is a lightweight tablet for work, creativity and entertainment. It said the device has a 12-inch OLED PaperMatte display, a PaperMatte Edition that reduces glare and reflections while offering a paper-like writing experience, and a metal body available in Airy Blue, Sakura Pink and White. The company said the tablet supports HUAWEI Notes, GoPaint and WPS Office, and can be paired with the HUAWEI M-Pencil Pro and Smart Magnetic Keyboard. Huawei said the MatePad Air has a 10,100 mAh battery that supports up to 16 hours of local HDR video playback, and that 66W HUAWEI SuperCharge Turbo can recharge it to 42 percent in 30 minutes. Zimmer said the MatePad Air is intended for mobility because it is light and thin.
