Houthis claim drone strike on Saudi Aramco refinery

Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed a drone attack on an Aramco refinery in Saudi Arabia's southern Jizan region on Thursday, the group's affiliated news agency Saba reported.

Saba cited a Houthi military source as saying Houthi forces targeted the refinery with two drones and achieved a precise hit. The claimed hit and any damage were not independently confirmed.

Saba reported that the source described the strike as a response to a Saudi “violation of Yemeni airspace” and sovereignty in the Saada and Hajjah governorates. The source also said the Houthis would respond to any violation of the country's sovereignty or aggression targeting Yemen, according to Saba.

The claim came after a years-long truce in Yemen's civil war between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed, internationally recognised government appeared to collapse last month. In July, the Houthis announced a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia and hit Saudi tankers in the Red Sea. On Sunday, the Iran-backed group said it had struck an oil facility on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast in response to drone incursions from Saudi Arabia into northwest Yemen.
