Greece plans scooter ban for riders under 17 after accidents

Greece plans to tighten rules on electric stand-up scooters after repeated accidents, especially involving young people, Deputy Transport Minister Giorgos Kotsiras said.

Kotsiras told Skai TV that a bill due to be voted on the next day would ban scooter use by people under 17. He said the bill would also increase fines for unsafe riding and require accident insurance.

Kotsiras said official statistics showed higher accident rates among people under 17.

According to the federation of Greek hospital workers, about 400 children and teenagers were hurt in scooter accidents last year, with many cases fatal.
